Writing Reflection #8

Blackout Newspaper Poetry

I found this assignment to be difficult. It's hard to have an article in front of you that you have to completely reconstruct to say/mean what you want it to. It is also difficult to make three different pieces have a common theme. I made a few in class but I'm not sure I like them. I tried at home while blasting music and I found it really helped me be more creative and focused. So I made a few more but I don't think I'm completely satisfied with them yet, so I'll try again. I've read some others that people have created and they're quite well done. Some are funny and some really are great poetry. I hope to produce something decent in the end of this project.

This way of writing is very interesting to me. I've never thought of such a creative way of writing. I've always wanted to do something like this to see if I would be any good at it or enjoy it. Though I find it frusterating at times, I am enjoying the process. I find it more interesting than the other forms of writing we've done in the past such as listography, moment writing or doodling.

What have I learned about myself? Well not too much I must say. I pretty much knew I'd struggle with this project but like the creative outlet it's produced. That is exactly whats happened and how I feel about this assignment. Hopefully as I continue trying to make some decent poetry in this strange way I'll come out with something to be proud of.

Process of Commenting:
Sometimes I find it hard to post comments on other people's blogs because I don't really know what exactly to comment, and in order to post a decent comment, you need to post things that start a discussion. I tried my best to post comments that did just that. I chose to post on the blogs I did, because they had interesting posts I thought I could say a lot about.

I think the characteristics of a good comment are:
-well thought out
-conversation starter
-connected to the original post

Characteristics of a bad comment are basically the opposite:
-random
-does not start any discussion
-completely off topic of the original post

Reading Reflection #6

Book: Scar Tissue
Author: Anthony Kiedis

I am close to halfway through the book and I am still enjoying it. At the part I'm at, Anthony Kiedis is really focused on his music career. But, being focused on that doesn't mean he isn't also focused on drugs and alcohol. I know I say this which every reading reflection but I am constantly surprised that he is still alive right now. I could never imagine being in a band like that. Especially with someone like him, he would skip rehearsals, sometimes even live shows, and still continue in the band. He'd party until the sun came up and then sleep under the seats of their tour bus all day and then do a show at night. That would take such a toll on a persons body. But I guess when he started to feel the exhaustion, he did more drugs to take away those feelings. At this time in the book, Anthony has a girlfriend named Jennifer. Not that that matters, he still cheats on her constantly when he's on the road. He says he's in love with her but it's hard to believe when he treats her like that. He also stays at her house with her family when he isn't on tour. If I were her parents, and had this random guy sleeping on the couch, eating the food, sneaking in at all hours of the night, I don't think I would be very happy about their seeing each other.

I would give some predictions on what is to come in the book but everything is so unexpected I really can't predict anything. I just predict I'll continue to like the book. That's a pretty safe prediction.

Red Hots

So if you have been following my blog and actually reading it, you should be aware that I love concerts. They are one of my favorite things to go to and I have been fortunate enough to have been to many.

Well, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO TOWN? Since I'm assuming none of you are telepathic (unless Sylar is reading this..*Heroes reference*) than I shall tell you. The Red Hot Chili Peppers!!! I love them and I would be super stoked if I saw them in concert. I am currently reading the lead singer, Anthony Kiedis' book, and I feel like if I could just talk to him I could ask him so many questions about what I've read! It would be so cool so see him now perform, knowing his life story and everything he's done to get to the position he is in now.

So I asked my dad to get me and a friend tickets because he is a magician when it comes to scoring awesome concert tickets. This is how the conversation went:

Me: "Dad! The Red Hot Chili Peppers are coming in November!! Can you get me tickets?!"
Dad: "Pfft, since when do you like them? Name three songs."

Apparently my father doesn't know me after 18 years of my existence. Considering I've always liked the band, I was horrified. Who is this man I call my father? So I listed about ten songs and he said he would try to get some good tickets. All in all, I am really excited and hope for some great tickets. GO TERRY GO.
