KONY 2012

My thoughts on Kony 2012..hmm where to start.

Well first off I am glad that this video has caught so much attention by so many people in a short amount of time. This is a huge issue and needs to be made aware of however possible. I cannot believe the majority of people (including myself) who have no watched this video have never heard of this man before. What he is doing is a major issue and should have been stopped much sooner. In the video when they go to the government the first time to get them to do something and get involved I was shocked that the government turned them away. Simply because the issue didn't directly impact their country. The second time they went back and met with different policy makers individually and everyone agreed to help. Whether this was because Invisible Children had so many more supporters or if the government simply saw the error of their ways (doubtful) I'm glad they changed their minds.

The issue I have is that on Facebook in particular, people keep "sharing" the video. And while that is great, so many more people are becoming aware, its just not enough. In the video it says how you can help by spreading the word, this makes people think that simply by sharing the video they've done their part. When really, taking the next step is what will do something for the cause. The next step meaning donating to the charity, or getting more people to donate would help an awful lot more than just sharing the video. Don't get me wrong, sharing the video is a valuable step in getting the issue out there and getting people concerned, but doing that isnt enough to stop Joseph Kony.

Things like this shouldnt be happening in the world. These innocent people dont deserve any of this. I hope to participate in the event on April 20th by putting up posters and such everywhere in the city. Hopefully, with all of the awareness, donations and large movements will come out of it.

Stop Joseph Kony 2012.
